Tour du Haut Var Stage 1  LIVE

Draguignan - La Croix Valmer
189.2 km

One of the highlights of the early season program. The always aggressively raced Tour du Haut Var follows the Tour Med on the prep course for riders aiming for the early results at Paris-Nice. Although it consists of two stages this is essentially two one day races. A flatter one today and a hilly /uphill finish stage tomorrow.

Podiumcafe likely suspect: Romain Feillu

Am I reading this right? Simultaneous viddy?!?

How will that work? If I’m awake in 3 hours ;\

Thanks for not saying "First."
I find that practice to be incredibly idiotic

(and notice how I’m only commenting on it when someone directed a comment to me about it? I’ve been trying to play nice :) )

You and me both, sister.

That’s why I commended you on showing such restraint. Pretty much anything other than a verbatim quote from Mein Kampf is better in my opinion.

Whilst I agree with you, Mein Kampf may be going a tad too far, but I noticed that a friend of mine put this up

at the Cyclingtips blog, so I saved it for just such an occasion.

an editorial comment from the distant past:

“if you would inform, a positive dogmatical Manner in advancing your Sentiments, may provoke Contradiction & prevent a Candid Attention. If you wish Information & Improivement from the Knowledge of others and yet at the same time express yourself as firmly fix’d in your present Opinions, modest sensible Men, who do not love Disputation, will probably leave you undisturb’d in the Possession of your Error; and by such a Manner you can seldom hope to recommend yourself in pleasing your hearers, or to persuade those whose Concurrence you desire.”

I'll just say 'first idiot' next time
Degenkolb will take the win today.
I was hoping for howard, but you may well be right.
with just about all the top sprinters hanging out in Oman, we probably need to dig

a little deeper:
Hushovd
Bosic
Cantwell
Rojas

I am going to stop here of fear of looking like a complete imbecile.

I sincerely hope Jens is wrong and it won't be Feillu. he's a menace.
is he?
I've heard it after sprint finishes a number of times. the last time it was Goss at the TDU, but I also have a vague

recollection of at least one sprint in last year’s TdF where he was talked about after a sprint.

PODIUM

I’m saying it cause I can.

o/t Pon Holdings acquires Cervelo.

piece on CN website.

and, if you need time to kill, you can go rewatch last year's haut var.
you got it on disk?
well, yes. but you can also watch it online. cyclingfans has the links to the full coverage.
(there are few races i don't have a disk)
I remember buying a 10mb HDD for about $2000 in the past.

Rode my bike ever since.

now that's a blast from the past

currently, i have around 20 2tb hard drives wandering around this house attached to machines.

Hey gs!

I thought the Caubergcross was going to be on tv, but I can’t find it. Any ideas?

not for another hour. and, it's on exqi
Found it!

I was convinced it was 15h already

It is, on TV Limburg

Live thread: www.podiumcafe.com/2012/2/18/2807887/caubergcross-live

Exqui too

But I’m going to check if I can find tv Limburg, never watched it before

They've got Erwin Vervecken as co-commentator

so that should be fine

Good morning peoples..!
afternoon
to you I am getting ready to go for a ride...

Tomorrow is a club race and I don’t know the course or the area… so Mister Frank will take me there in a few to ride around the course.

Always a good idea

But save your energy for tomorrow!

Don't worry I won't be chasing any KOMs today...

2 km uphill in the dirt will be a segment when I come back… is like small circuit of 10 km and I believe is 3 laps.

meanwhile, nibali wins stage 5 of oman
so many races going on..!
Peter Velits is second. Just waiting to hear who came third and who now has race leader's jersey.
and i had just swapped him for Scarponi

Now i need to rethink, again

very nice.

Perhaps a long range attack?

from 5km out with velits. then dropped velits and soloed to the finish.
hopefully he will end up with the leaders jersey then
Tiernan-Lock speaking French.
Beautiful stream
Who is the ex-Phonak rider who is doing the expert commentary?
Meanwhile over in Italy

ORDER OF ARRIVAL: 1, Moreno MOSER (ITA, Liquigas – Cannondale), 2 ° Miguel Angel Rubiano Chavez (Col, Androni – Venezuela), 3 ° Montaguti Matthew (Eng, Ag2r La Mondiale) 4° GianLuca BRAMBILLA (Ita, Colnago – CSF), 5° Francesco GAVAZZI (Ita, Astana)

Moreno MOSER

interesting pick for the U25 VDS

and Chavez
It's not that Chavez

the one who won l’Avenir rides for Colombia Coldeportes

well, I have someone called Chavez on my team
But I already submitted my team
Me too

(without Moser)

What channel is Haut Var on?

http://cote-d-azur.france3.fr/tour-du-haut-var/index.php?page=article&numsite=6302&id_article=21761&id_rubrique=6305

Ah, so France 3

Let’s see if my tv understands what that means

You know, the one I linked above.
I meant tv channel

sorry

france 3 regional

cote d’azur and provence

Ah

that explains why my France 3 has a dude standing on a hill talking about the ocean

not geographically kind to belgium :)
How far?

Do I have time to go buying some food?

Depending on which passage of the finish line that was

Distance to go/gone estimated time at 42/39/35 km’h
24,4 164,8 Premier passage ligne d’Arrivée ( montée village étroite ) 16:14:41 16:32:52 17:01:47
18,3 170,9 Deuxième passage ligne d’Arrivée 16:23:23 16:42:15 17:12:14
12,2 177,0 Troisième passage ligne d’Arrivée 16:32:05 16:51:38 17:22:41
6,1 183,1 Quatrième passage ligne d’Arrivée 16:40:47 17:01:01 17:33:08
0,0 189,2 Arrivée finale La Croix Valmer Le Forum 16:49:29 17:10:24 17:43:35

That got me confused, I'll wait and watch
probably btwn 3rd and 4th lap
Beppu sighting :)
Haut Var

Hardy and Koretsky → 55 s Bertogliati, Madrazo and Georges → 1.30 peloton

And Allez Hardy. He is going to win :)

thank you. I'm finding this very confusing.
They keep showing the dropped riders
Thanks. I was wondering, and the circuit seems tiny.
2 laps to go - 12.2km

(the little man with the sign fianlly faced the camera)

so ths is like a US crit race?
164 km en ligne

then 5 laps of 6km round the finish town

ahh, ok. modern style parcours
No...

…crit courses are usually 1-2 miles long max

really that "small"?

damn.

Yeah, so lots and lots of laps of a pretty short course...

…is usually how they work.

In Algvare

A breakaway with: Algavre → Breschel, Devenyns, Bussche, Sanchez Pimenta, Pardilla, Bakelnts, Cherel, van Avermaet

has it's own thread, frinking
I can not open 2 streams + 2 threads so I'll shut up
No don't..my computer's struggling as is my brain.
You only have to remember.

They ride 150km(?) and at the end Hardy wins ;)

Hardy is looking a bit tired to me
He has a good trainer in Voeckler

The facing is just to confuse the opponents

Ha! even the pedaling style!
I was thinking of another 'H"...Howard, and isn't it 180 k's today?
+ Kroon and Leukemans
Wow, BMC blown out of the water
Struggling to get an overview here.
a kilometre to go?
NOOOOOOO
Really don't have a clue. Both way to with to see the difference
So seriously, who won? i thought there were about 20 k's to go.
Koretszky beats Hardy

god know who was third

I was thinking that..

Too bad

This was not France 3's best ever cycling broadcast, I think we can all agree.
Fixed cam FTW!
very regional

no moto cam on final circuit, seems just fixed camera. Bit like watching a horse race in the fog, with runners only in view for part of the course

they kept showing dudes with moto-cams... but never did we see shots from moto-cams.
Low budget stream>No stream
CQRanking gives Hardy...

My French sucks so I dunnp

Odd, b/c I could have sworn they were saying the opposite...

…but my verbal French isn’t great either.

me too/mine too

i retire gracefully from trying to understand the commentary

They gave a clue by saying a Frenchman won!

too late for me

credibility in tatters :)

Peloton sprinted for 4th?
Hardy won!!!

The hero. the next TdF winner!

1. Romain Hardy (Bretagne-Schuller) 2. Clément Koretzcky (VC La Pomme) 3. Guillaume Levarlet (Saur Sojasun)
or 3 Tiernan-Locke.

Shoot me

I think we'll give you a stay of execution for now. Happy your boy won.
I have to check the map to see where the finish was.

Looked cold there; but still, the sun was shining and it is France! A mini-vacation for my eyes!

indeed. very nice.
