Castro Marim - Malhao 194.6 km
Time for a little uphill finish. The climbier guys get to strut their stuff. Not a huge climb but just enough to sort out the GC a little bit. Don't expect much of a lasting effect of it though. The long TT will decide this race in the end.

Oh well :(
Albertina - February 17, 2012
I'm following the Tour of Oman on Twitter. This sounds like quite an exciting stage.
Seahorse - February 17, 2012
So am I...can't wait to see the highlights
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
Oooooohh! Maybe there was even better pottery today?
Jens - February 17, 2012
I hope! I can't wait for them to show off the fruits and rose water from Green Moutain tomorrow
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
Wait...they're going to Vermont?
That’s a hell of a transfer.
majope - February 17, 2012
The Omani Sultanate can afford it
…which cracks me up because Oman’s sultan is Sultan Qaboos
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
Indeed..waiting with bated breath!
Albertina - February 17, 2012
Morning.
I need breakfast.
majope - February 17, 2012

larsen, not klostergaard

Andre Greipel gets back on to win the stage. Sagan second. Think Chris Sutton 3rd
That’s a bit of an anticlimax….was hoping for one of the attackers!
Albertina - February 17, 2012
From Anthony McCrossan's Twitter btw
Albertina - February 17, 2012
Greipel's having a good preseason...
I’m still not taking him.
majope - February 17, 2012
Guess my Germans>
pablo777 - February 17, 2012
My guess is you have them sorted by price or points, not alphabetically.
So: Martin is the guy on top, and this post suggests Greipel is your second German. They’ll both get you points. I may or may not have Martin myself, but picked other sprinters.
majope - February 17, 2012
yes... Tmart+Gorilla force..!
pablo777 - February 17, 2012
Got a new top 5
Stage 4: Greipel (LTB) 2. Sagan (LIQ) 3. Gallopin (RNT) 4. Bouhanni (FDJ) 5. Sutton (SKY
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
Now saying Gallopin 3rd, then Bouhanni and Sutton
Albertina - February 17, 2012
i thought the climbs are harder so we won't see sprinters in the end...
Grzdylu - February 17, 2012
This was what I would call an ideal "flat" stage.

They’re very good for motivating yourself to get out and ride.
broerie - February 17, 2012
There's no info about the first one...what does it involve?
Albertina - February 17, 2012
Climb as much (ascent) as you can.
broerie - February 17, 2012
Not sure I have enough hills around to do that well in that!
Might try the other one though…oh heck, maybe both. Now all the grubby snow and salt is gone I MIGHT take my nice bike out tomorrow….
Albertina - February 17, 2012
You should join both (as everyone does). It doesn't matter how good or bad you score.
broerie - February 17, 2012
Yeah look at me..! I stink..! But I still keep trying..!
pablo777 - February 17, 2012

Oh heck, the emotional rollercoaster that is following Elia Viviani through an omnium has started.
Only 7th in the flying lap and already his sadfaces have started on Twitter!
Albertina - February 17, 2012
How about Gijs?
broerie - February 17, 2012
Ha...oh dear...13th.
Long way to go though :)
Albertina - February 17, 2012
Gijs got 2nd in the first points sprint...tissot has live scoring going
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
The live timing won't work on my work computer
Can you communicate the result in due course please? :)
Albertina - February 17, 2012
Well 5 guys gained a lap and are up big...
Kovalev, Ratajczyk, Mori, Liu and Rovira (Spain)
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
Elia is tied for 8th with Bell, Gijs and Coquard
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
Elia won a sprint...now up into 5th. Archbold lost a lap!
Kluge just got his first points…into 12th
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
dai Elia!!!
civetta - February 17, 2012
I'm glad I have a comrade here!
Elia doesn’t half wear his heart on his sleeve during these things…I get so sad at his mournful tweets if he does badly…the emotional drama! Plus, I’m going tomorrow night so I want him to be in a good position overnight. Might be a bit depressing if I have to cheer him to 10th or something :-/
Albertina - February 17, 2012
You're going??
Jealous. :-(
civetta - February 17, 2012
Only tomorrow evening.
Tried to get tickets for the whole thing but it was a bunfight. Impossible. Sarah didn’t get any at all :(
Albertina - February 17, 2012
Cooooome oooooon Eliaaaaa!
Damn I love that boy!
Albertina - February 17, 2012
And he takes a lap! Up into 4th, 1 point ahead of Kovalev...Rovira has this sown up if he can stay on the lead lap
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
Where do I find this ticker?
broerie - February 17, 2012

Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
Yessss! Atta boy.
Albertina - February 17, 2012
Now up into 3rd =]
Kluge is losing it…14th right now with only 2 points
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
Kluge takes a lap solo...now up into T-5 with Kovalev
Viviani still in 3rd
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
Woo, keep going!
Albertina - February 17, 2012
4th in the end, and 2nd overall now.
The Colombian dude is 7 points ahead though…grrrr
Albertina - February 17, 2012
Arango seems to be a good pursuiter as well...could be a problem for Elia
Still a chance
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
Flying lap should be one of his strenghts as a sprinter.
broerie - February 17, 2012
It's never his best event though. He might have hoped for maybe 4th or 5th
but he usually makes his biggest gains in the points, scratch and especially the elimination which he’s very good at. Fingers crossed!
Albertina - February 17, 2012
He shouldn't be too bad...Archbold was in 6th and Kluge in 8th
Kluge was really good at the Astana WC…so they are the main competition
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
Yep, indeed. Coquard is dangerous too though and he's ahead of him
Albertina - February 17, 2012

Seahorse - February 17, 2012

ZoeRochelle - February 17, 2012

I'm having a little tear :)
Seahorse - February 17, 2012
Aw, let it go. He looked so damn happy!
Ruthann - February 17, 2012
That's his first time doing the zipper up in Europe! Very special.
Seahorse - February 17, 2012
Introducing The Mother of all Aussie pros - Seahorse

I turn 55 on Monday...almost their grandmother.
Seahorse - February 17, 2012
Merry Birthday monday!!!
2thvet - February 17, 2012

2thvet - February 17, 2012
But they are all between 20-40 so mother is better
Happy Birthday! (Although if you are like me, you’d rather forget another year older.)
ZoeRochelle - February 17, 2012
I've decided they're all worth celebrating :)
Seahorse - February 17, 2012
Maybe I'll come around. I am 46 and not handling aging as well as I thought I would.
ZoeRochelle - February 17, 2012
Seriously, we can't change our age, but we can be happy that we're still here :)
Seahorse - February 17, 2012
Machado and Costa 10 seconds down
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
Come on boys!!
Albertina - February 17, 2012

civetta - February 17, 2012

holmovka - February 17, 2012
Porte looking lean and mean. All grown up.
sebastiandeluded - February 17, 2012
stupid internet
sebastiandeluded - February 17, 2012
Wiggins showed some very beast-like qualities today.
Seahorse - February 17, 2012
Not a too bad prediction today
Jens - February 17, 2012
No, well done
broerie - February 17, 2012
Porte is tiny.
Seahorse - February 17, 2012
amd he even has a serious cycling haircut.
ZoeRochelle - February 17, 2012
I think it's a hide the receding hairline cut, although many of the Oz boys seem to have shaved back to a gauge 2.
I hate it, but particularly at the TDU it was necessary.
Seahorse - February 17, 2012
Bjarne will be pissed he didn't look like that last year
Jens - February 17, 2012
They're are a couple of guys at Sky who could be very intimidating to Porte.
Seahorse - February 17, 2012
Well he raced him into the ground last year so Porte is reaping the benefits now
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
Well, even Porte said he was pleased with the Giro call up
because he lacked race shape. He never trimmed down like he has this off season that’s for sure
Jens - February 17, 2012
Thanks for the fun company everyone. Getting back to work.
ZoeRochelle - February 17, 2012
Martin is only 50 sec. down in GC
Grzdylu - February 17, 2012
Porte is in some good form...I say he still takes it
Martin will take some time back though
Vlaanderen90 - February 17, 2012
Podium i think
Grzdylu - February 17, 2012
+1
Seahorse - February 17, 2012
Still, 50 seconds on Porte is no easy feat
Jens - February 17, 2012
Just finished taking a mass off the hock of a schnauzer, I better start concentrating on work too.
Type at you all later!
2thvet - February 17, 2012
Probably Porte has fastest climbing time on Malhao ever...
