Volta ao Algarve Stage 3 LIVE

Castro Marim - Malhao 194.6 km

Time for a little uphill finish. The climbier guys get to strut their stuff. Not a huge climb but just enough to sort out the GC a little bit. Don't expect much of a lasting effect of it though. The long TT will decide this race in the end.

Podiumcafe likely suspect: Tiago Machado

Climby climb!

And I’ll be able to watch it on the bigscreen!

*Posts up for the victory*
Maybe a litte test by JVDB today?
I'm following the Tour of Oman on Twitter. This sounds like quite an exciting stage.
So am I...can't wait to see the highlights
Oooooohh! Maybe there was even better pottery today?
I hope! I can't wait for them to show off the fruits and rose water from Green Moutain tomorrow
Wait...they're going to Vermont?

That’s a hell of a transfer.

The Omani Sultanate can afford it

…which cracks me up because Oman’s sultan is Sultan Qaboos

Indeed..waiting with bated breath!
Morning.

I need breakfast.

km 35: Trentin, Riblon, Burghardt, Maaskant, Klostergaard, Vanspeybrouck, McLaughlin y Gonçalves, fuga por el momento.

larsen, not klostergaard
Oman

Andre Greipel gets back on to win the stage. Sagan second. Think Chris Sutton 3rd

That’s a bit of an anticlimax….was hoping for one of the attackers!

From Anthony McCrossan's Twitter btw
Greipel's having a good preseason...

I’m still not taking him.

Guess my Germans>
My guess is you have them sorted by price or points, not alphabetically.

So: Martin is the guy on top, and this post suggests Greipel is your second German. They’ll both get you points. I may or may not have Martin myself, but picked other sprinters.

yes... Tmart+Gorilla force..!
Got a new top 5

Stage 4: Greipel (LTB) 2. Sagan (LIQ) 3. Gallopin (RNT) 4. Bouhanni (FDJ) 5. Sutton (SKY

Now saying Gallopin 3rd, then Bouhanni and Sutton
i thought the climbs are harder so we won't see sprinters in the end...
This was what I would call an ideal "flat" stage.
today's ticker. best to open in chrome for easy translation options

stage 3 ticker

All I am going to say is: TGIF...!
Hugo Sancho (LA-Antarte) trails the break by 5 mins (why doesn't he just sit up?). peloton at 7 mins, after 72km.
chasse patatte!
Sorta O/T...100 year old set the hour record for his age group today

24.25 km in a hour…that is some inspiring stuff

Blimey

Is it?

bah, seahorsed
That's the Reverse seahorse. An extraordinary manoeuvre!
I got skillz!
Can't motivate myself to get to work right now...
Gah. I've felt like that for months now.
story of my day
Neither can I.

I can just seen I’m going to spend the entire afternoon following this and the track world cup and doing very little of use.

after two hours, average speed 41.5km
getting better.
Too fast for 100 year olds
he was riding alone in the wind.
KM 105: pelotão a 5m30s dos oito fugitivos

so appears the rider lost in no-man’s land is back in the peloton.

I'm back! What's going on here then?
nothing much.
Yawn
did you see the challenges in strava??? there is 2 new...
No, what are challenges?

Here
and here
They’re very good for motivating yourself to get out and ride.

There's no info about the first one...what does it involve?
Climb as much (ascent) as you can.
Not sure I have enough hills around to do that well in that!

Might try the other one though…oh heck, maybe both. Now all the grubby snow and salt is gone I MIGHT take my nice bike out tomorrow….

You should join both (as everyone does). It doesn't matter how good or bad you score.
Yeah look at me..! I stink..! But I still keep trying..!
we all stink compared to the guys who win these challenges
True.

I stink compared to a lot of people.

I just take a shower and move on!! :-)
Tomorrow is Saturday right?

Yep is on schedule..!

Well your Strava page still scares me ;)
Come on his profile pic is not that bad..! ; )
It's more the figures...erm, as in numbers, not his physical figure ;)
If that scares you, go check out the pages from the Pro's

or Brian Toone

Oh I have, but I just say

‘bah, it’s a pro, no comparison’ and run away ;)

Jim's and Jered are always nice to look at...
Jim and Jered are incredible athletes
Roger and Ant always do something epic..!
Did you see the 400 km+ in 2 days?
No, missed that
Last month... Check their profile...
Jim who?

This one (not the one from the cocaine in NY).

PdCer?
Don't know his nickname, but he's joined the PdC group on Strava
we're preparing for the unleashment of LPN.
Licensed Practical Nurses?
NCS! NCS!
Oh, that's right.

I have a hard time keeping all the CSes straight.

This one

Yeah, he's been on his team since that.
Love the captions on that video! "Dig in the dancing queen."
2:30 hrs and I am out until Monday...!!!
you have to work on monday? it's a federal holiday you know.
i don't work for the goverment....
neither do most people. but most people have monday off.
retail and restaurants don't. big sale day. but they should get shift premium.
or, rather, holiday premium
Lucky them... I get lots of tips...!

the best part of working holidays.

Oh heck, the emotional rollercoaster that is following Elia Viviani through an omnium has started.

Only 7th in the flying lap and already his sadfaces have started on Twitter!

How about Gijs?
Ha...oh dear...13th.

Long way to go though :)

Gijs got 2nd in the first points sprint...tissot has live scoring going
The live timing won't work on my work computer

Can you communicate the result in due course please? :)

Well 5 guys gained a lap and are up big...

Kovalev, Ratajczyk, Mori, Liu and Rovira (Spain)

Elia is tied for 8th with Bell, Gijs and Coquard
Elia won a sprint...now up into 5th. Archbold lost a lap!

Kluge just got his first points…into 12th

dai Elia!!!
I'm glad I have a comrade here!

Elia doesn’t half wear his heart on his sleeve during these things…I get so sad at his mournful tweets if he does badly…the emotional drama! Plus, I’m going tomorrow night so I want him to be in a good position overnight. Might be a bit depressing if I have to cheer him to 10th or something :-/

You're going??

Jealous. :-(

Only tomorrow evening.

Tried to get tickets for the whole thing but it was a bunfight. Impossible. Sarah didn’t get any at all :(

Cooooome oooooon Eliaaaaa!

Damn I love that boy!

And he takes a lap! Up into 4th, 1 point ahead of Kovalev...Rovira has this sown up if he can stay on the lead lap
Where do I find this ticker?
tissottiming.com

click london then click live timing on the right side…you have to download a little app but its pretty nice. This is the last race until this evening

Yessss! Atta boy.
Now up into 3rd =]

Kluge is losing it…14th right now with only 2 points

Kluge takes a lap solo...now up into T-5 with Kovalev

Viviani still in 3rd

Woo, keep going!
4th in the end, and 2nd overall now.

The Colombian dude is 7 points ahead though…grrrr

Arango seems to be a good pursuiter as well...could be a problem for Elia

Still a chance

Flying lap should be one of his strenghts as a sprinter.
It's never his best event though. He might have hoped for maybe 4th or 5th

but he usually makes his biggest gains in the points, scratch and especially the elimination which he’s very good at. Fingers crossed!

He shouldn't be too bad...Archbold was in 6th and Kluge in 8th

Kluge was really good at the Astana WC…so they are the main competition

Yep, indeed. Coquard is dangerous too though and he's ahead of him
123km down, gap is 1.05. first of the climbs finished
Cummings abandoned
not going according to plan.
Any idea why?
after crash earlier today
Peletao compactao
Woohoo! I speak Portuguese!
Fale mininha..! Fale..! My spelling is not that great..!
still 25 minutes....
Medisterpølse. surkål, pasta og julebrus. WTF?
Dude that i don't speak..!

I’d guess broken wrist?

What language?
pols = wrist in Dutch
Wrong guess
Sausages. sauerkraut, pasta and decorations.
LOL..! wrist and sausage...!!???
LOL!
Enlighten us please
It's my dinner. It.'s a disgrace. What can I say, skiing in the woods makes

me hungry.

I'm going to have a go at roller skiing. Am I mad?
Go for it! Just remember that braking is different

on roller skis than on a bike.. :)

roller skiing is good, especially in the woods on a good trail
Remember to track your rides with your Garmin 500
(and upload them on Strava)
and yes, you're crazy
I am, and I will :-)

I’m going to go to a beginners’ lesson…we’ll see how it goes!

Decorations? Julebrus is a type of soda typically consumed during the x-mas holidays.
No video yet then. No meeting today so I get to watch the finish live (I hope)

I watched yesterday’s finish on youtube. Not the same but ice cream boy won so there’s that.

"ice cream boy"? that's cav, right? not ebh.
EBH is ice cream boy. Boassan-Hagen -> Hagen Dazs

That was his nickname on Highroad.

Carlos Barredo (Rabobank) e Blel Kadri (Ag2r) have a gap of 1.15
Live video just started

HERE

restricted....?
just give it a few minutes
I actually just kept refreshing, and eventually got in.
Working stream:

The podium ladies have very short skirts in Algarve!

SHORTS SKIRTS HERE

I'll admit I clicked that

and enjoyed it

they are beautiful women
They are. I have tops longer than that however!
Yellow looks good on EBH
You read my mind

Too bad he ditched the shoes.

A link to the race website livestream is

HERE

where's willj? nice hairpins
Did that graphic say Gap 35"?
Peloton breaking up? WHo is the sky in front?
That must be Busche on/near the front of the peloton for RST, with the elongated US flag on the

front of his jersey? (Lame)

I'm not getting audio. Is it me or the feed?
I have audio.

I can’t understand a word of it but…

thx - got it working
I would think

Froome might destroy the peloton

English commentary with video

http://sports-livez.com/channel/ch-2.php

thx
Makes my ears much happier!! And you are most welcome.
I would think

this pace is too high for Eddy.

15km to go
less than 30 riders in the peloton
Beautiful scenery again
Portugal has the similar geography to Northern California where I live.
Panzerwagen dropped apparently
appears that way
Slo-mo Klodie - where's Seahorse
Really can't get used to Tony Martin not in an HTC jersey.

Or the total absence of HTC jerseys in general.

+1 I, too, feel your pain.
The colour of the kit suits him though :)
Climb EBH! Wiggins is stalking you!
Is Klodi stalking him too? (She asks hopefully.)
maybe but Wiggins was right on his tail
Well, his in 2nd pos in the pel, so I guess he

has some 30 stalkers there.

They are really flying!
Did they say Alves?
BS I am not there...:oP
EBH is looking good for de Ronde this year. That's what I think.
He did look pretty lean at the finish post-up, I'll admit.
Yellow jersey on domstique duties today.
get used to it.
Nice to see a big group racing rather than a piddly breakaway.
EBH on the front powering the lower part of the climb

working for Wiggins

or possibly some other Sky rider

Porte? Or Nordhaug maybe? :)

Commentators saying Porte.
my commentators said Wiggins earlier but now changing their minds
I think I saw GVA
Hah, looks like California
Yep! I said that up there ^^^
I'm not going to say 'great minds' because I'm lacking there.
2.7 km

5.7% average

Sounds like a finish for Poels
Damn, Eddy is stringing this out
3 Sky riders left
last climb?
yes, less than 5 km
Huge wall in front of them!
WOW! Uphill fast!
Wiggo out of the saddle
Sky handling this stage very Postal-like
please, this is a live thread.
Kloeden popped
Kloeden dropped
Sprinter Klodie out the back. (Sorry seahorse!)
P.Velits and EBH dropped, too.
Never like to see EBH working for anyone. Quite the opposite.
VDB!

Who are the Garracuda’s?

Costa looking feisty
Machado
JVDB has no acceleration

as always

and again he teases
Team buses scattered all over the sides of the climb
I should ban myself from watching races before my VDS goes in.
ha! giving Richie the spoils pre-vds so he can be a work horse the rest of the year
He's been on my team for the last two years and I've been vacillating.
Very little babyfat on Porte
Porte zoom, wiggins Boom!
Sky were working for Porte?
Oh! Tony Martin in blue is so weird!
So Porte learned a few things from Bert? Excellent.
Is it Giro for Porte?
no. svitsov
thanks
porte suppose to be doing the same calendar as wiggans
All in for Bradley. This is his big chance I guess.
is that right?
Porte looks fantastic!
Richie Porte has no ass!
I'm having a little tear :)
Aw, let it go. He looked so damn happy!
That's his first time doing the zipper up in Europe! Very special.
Introducing The Mother of all Aussie pros - Seahorse
I turn 55 on Monday...almost their grandmother.
Merry Birthday monday!!!
Thanks. Uni starts monday too. I timed that very badly.
But they are all between 20-40 so mother is better

Happy Birthday! (Although if you are like me, you’d rather forget another year older.)

I've decided they're all worth celebrating :)
Maybe I'll come around. I am 46 and not handling aging as well as I thought I would.
Seriously, we can't change our age, but we can be happy that we're still here :)
Machado and Costa 10 seconds down
very laid back win there, Richie
What a performance from Porte

and Sky for that matter, they looked so strong as a team….

Nice win for Porte
DEVOLDER!
my secret VDS weapon!
Mmmm doughnuts
deja vu
The Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen is his I tell ya!
Devolder!

Stop cursing, kids!

Porte looking lean and mean. All grown up.
Wiggins showed some very beast-like qualities today.
Not a too bad prediction today
Porte is tiny.
amd he even has a serious cycling haircut.
I think it's a hide the receding hairline cut, although many of the Oz boys seem to have shaved back to a gauge 2.

I hate it, but particularly at the TDU it was necessary.

Bjarne will be pissed he didn't look like that last year
They're are a couple of guys at Sky who could be very intimidating to Porte.
Well he raced him into the ground last year so Porte is reaping the benefits now
Well, even Porte said he was pleased with the Giro call up

because he lacked race shape. He never trimmed down like he has this off season that’s for sure

Thanks for the fun company everyone. Getting back to work.
Martin is only 50 sec. down in GC
Porte is in some good form...I say he still takes it

Martin will take some time back though

Podium i think
Still, 50 seconds on Porte is no easy feat
Just finished taking a mass off the hock of a schnauzer, I better start concentrating on work too.

Type at you all later!

Probably Porte has fastest climbing time on Malhao ever...
